Die Band Roxy Music wurde 1971 von Bryan Ferry, Andy Mackay und Brian Eno in London gegründet.
Bandgeschichte
1973 verließ Brian Eno im Streit die Band und widmete sich fortan Soloprojekten. Er produzierte auch Alben für David Bowie, U2 und Talking Heads und gründete ein eigenes Label. 1982 löste Bryan Ferry die Band auf und ist seitdem ebenfalls als Solokünstler tätig. Seit 2005 befindet sich die Band in Originalbesetzung wieder im Studio.
Stil
Anders als andere Rockbands legen Roxy Music von vorneherein großen Wert auf Ästhetik und Stil. Das zeigt sich u.a. im Auftreten besonders Bryan Ferrys und Brian Enos, den Videos und den Plattencovern. Diese Form der Ästhetisierung wurde später im New Wave aufgegriffen, weshalb Roxy Music als die klassische Proto-New-Wave Band gilt, auf die nachfolgende Künstler/innen immer wieder bezug nehmen.
