George P. Lakoff (* 1941) ist seit 1972 Professor für Linguistik an der Universität Berkeley. Sein Spezialgebiet ist dabei die kognitive Linguistik. Am bekanntesten sind seine Theorien über die Sprache als Metaphersystem im menschlichen Denken, politischem Verhalten und Gesellschaft. In den letzten Jahren engagierte er sich mehr und mehr im politischen Sinne und gründete eine progressive Denkfabrik.
