Sir Francis Beaufort (* 7. Mai 1774 in Collon, Irland; † 17. Dezember 1857) war ein britischer Admiral und Hydrograph.

Er entwickelte die Beaufort-Skala, nach der die Windstärke gemessen wird. Auch stammt von ihm die Beaufort-Chiffre, eine Variante der Vignère-Chiffre.

Beaufort in Kleinasien

1811-12 unternahm er eine Reise nach Kleinasien, die zur Lokalisierung zahlreicher antiker Orte führte. Daraus entstanden folgende Schriften:
