Die Formel-GP2-Saison 2006 startet in Valencia, Spanien am 8. April 2006.
2006 ist die zweite Saison unter dem Namen Formel GP2. Die ersten Drei der letztjährigen Meisterschaft sind in die Formel 1 aufgestiegen. Nico Rosberg startet für das Williams-Team, Scott Speed für die Scuderia Toro Rosso und Heikki Kovalainen ist Testfahrer bei Renault. Auch Neel Jani als Freitagstestfahrer bei Toro Rosso, sowie Giorgio Mondini, der denselben Job bei MF1 Racing hat, haben den Sprung in die Königsklasse geschafft. Im Gegensatz zum letzten Jahr umfasst die GP2 nun 13 Teams.

Die Formel-GP2-Saison 2006 hat 11 Rennen in 8 verschiedenen Ländern. Auf jeder Rennstrecke werden 2 Rennen gefahren. Die einzige Ausnahme Monte Carlo wo nur 1 Rennen stattfindet. Die ersten 8 starten im zweiten Rennen in umgekehrter Reihenfolge.
