Carlos Sainz (* 12. April 1962 in Madrid, Spanien) ist seit 1980 Rallye-Fahrer und nimmt seit 1987 an der Rallye-Weltmeisterschaft teil. Er wurde zwei Mal, 1990 und 1992, Rallye-Weltmeister und schaffte es bisher fast unglaubliche 97 Mal aufs Podium. Als ersten WM-Lauf gewann er 1990 die Akropolis-Rallye in Griechenland, auf einem Toyota Celica GT4.
Seine knappste Niederlage erlitt Sainz beim letzten Rennen um die Rallye-WM 1998 in Großbritannien. Dort sah er vor der letzten Wertungsprüfung wie der sichere Weltmeister aus nachdem Tommi Mäkinen zuvor ausgefallen war. Doch 300 m vor dem Ziel schied er durch Motorschaden seines Toyota Corolla WRC aus. Damit ging der Titel erneut an Tommi Mäkinen.
Zuletzt gewann er am 18. Juli 2004 die Argentinien-Rallye und markierte dadurch mit insgesamt 26 Rallye-Siegen einen neuen Weltrekord.
In der Saison 2005 war er dann nicht mehr offiziell bei der Rallye-Weltmeisterschaft vertreten. Trotzdem fuhr er 2 Einsätze für das Citroen-Werksteam, das seinen Stammpiloten Francois Duval wegen enttäuschender Leistungen für 2 Rennen suspendierte.
