Deddf Uno 1536 Oherwydd cweryl Harri'r VIII gyda'r pab, yr oedd yn ofni y byddai gwrthryfel yn dod o Ffrainc drwy Iwerddon ac yna Chymru, ac felly fe benderfynnodd y byddai rhaid uno Cymru â Lloegr. Yr oedd hefyd yn gweld yr iaith Gymraeg yn fygythiad, ac er fod 95% o bobl Cymru dim ond yn siarad Cymraeg fe wnaeth y ddeddf wahardd y Gymraeg

"The people of the same dominion have and do daily use a speach nothing like the consonant to the natural mother tongue used this Realm", ac felly rhaid oedd "utterly to etirp all and singular the sinister usages and customs differing from the same... to an amiable concord and unity", ac felly "From henceforth no person or persons that use the Welsh speech or language shall have or enjoy any manor office or fees.... unless he or they use and excercis the speech or language of English".
